ABOUT ME
I’ve crafted my teaching method with one goal in mind: to help people learn how to play the music in their heads. My background in education combined with my lifelong passion for music help my students hone listening skills, enjoy playful practice, and fulfill their unique goals.
Whether you've studied music since you were a little kid, gotten a bit rusty, or you've never studied at all, I know that my years of studying (and unstudying) all facets of music can guide you toward a more musical side of yourself whom you would love to know. I teach students of all ages and aspirations, and my priorities are making you fluent, comfortable, and a better listener.
I studied music performance at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina and then earned a Master of Music Education at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where I studied music pedagogy and psychology. I volunteered as a trombone and guitar teacher at W.O. Smith Music School, taught choir and band in public schools, and taught private lessons all the way through. Being a well-rounded musician is about chasing your curiosity, learning how to practice, and fitting your sound in harmoniously with others. I’m confident that I can help you (or your child) move forward with your musical goals, whether through a one-time meeting, regular lessons, or group sessions. Let’s come up with a plan together!
I’d love to help you find your musical path. See how you can work with me to discover how to live with play.
TESTIMONIALS
MY TEACHING METHOD
-
Listen
It all starts by learning how to listen as a musician.
-
Sing
Next, we use our voice to prove cognitive understanding. “You’ve got to say it to play it.”
-
Play
The last step? We close the loop, playing what we knew was there all along. Music is like navigation - if you can learn to map from one place to another, you can learn to play anything.
